The TransferModule 1500 from Schleuniger, Switzerland, is a flexible, semiautomatic platform for linking various processes that require one or two linear movements. Complex processing steps can be automated where precise repetition is critical – improving quality without the need for expensive robotic systems. With this platform the company offers customers a cost-effective way to get into automation. Individual processes, such as stripping or crimping, are carried out using standardized machines which are connected with a customer-specific linear transfer. Processes that are technically difficult to automate, such as insertion of a component, are carried out manually by the operator. For additional quality assurance, the correct positioning of the inserted component can be monitored automatically by an appropriate sensor system. Through a combination of manual processes and precise, automated processing steps, a wide range of applications are carried out in a cost-effective manner.
Unlike complex fully automated solutions, which can also mean a considerable investment risk, the TransferModule 1500 is a comparatively small investment offering flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing production demands. The platform is a semiautomatic solution and requires an operator. The shorter cycle times and reduced handling of components allows the operator to work more efficiently compared to operators working with several independent machines. The platform offers a wide range of application possibilities (see figure). From multi-layer rotary stripping, crimping of various terminals, connector housing assembly, sensor cable assembly to wires and processes that require tinning or compaction of the wire strands, the TransferModule 1500 can do it all. It is driven by a PLC and operated with a standard PC. Due to the open system architecture, customer-specific processes are simple to integrate.
With the TransferModule 1500, the company offers a solution between individual bench-top machines and fully automated systems. Due to its higher flexibility, the platform can provide a favourable return on investment even for smaller production volumes.
